Sexy Sakura, 2018
Commissioned by the Ivy Group for the Sexy Fish restaurant, Mayfair
Medium: Perspex, LED, fluorescent lights and imitation flowers
Dimensions: 2.4m x 3m x 0.4m
This work was commissioned by the Ivy Group on the occasion of the cherry blossom festival in 2018 and was on display for two months. It features a Red Torii archway, a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred. The Japanese tradition of hanami, or cherry blossom festival, is a celebration that is centuries old. It is held throughout Japan and in many other places around the world and celebrates the blooming of the cherry trees.
